Progress to extend the mainline is under way on the SWSF. On June 9th, less than 24 hours after the last operating session ended, construction began. The goals are:
- to have fully operational the town of Redding, which up until now had been acting as the end of the line with temporary track installed
- to have the mainline and a passing siding operational in the town of Douglas (above the roundhouse area on the lower level)
- to have the mainline and a passing siding operational in the town of Raymond (at the end of the Los Molinos/Red Bluff/Kingsley aisle)
- to have at least 10 temporary staging tracks operational, all of them longer than the previous temporary tracks. They will be installed along the long side wall above Red Bluff, and configured as two staging yards, one after the other, with a single through track passing through the first in order to reach the yard behind it. This will require lenghtening the "aircraft carrier" so it can be used again.
